General working the water thread
« on: September 07, 2009, 07:43:36 PM »
I'll start off with what I do know.  You can paint your water at varying depths, and then come back and paint over the area with any selected nttXXXX or wnttXXXX .bmp, to simulate underwater sand, coral reefs, etc.

Has anyone figured out Settings->Terrain Type Settings->Change Ocean color/River color?  I've been messing with it and it seems to do nothing, no matter what color I set it at.

What is the waterc.bmp used for?  It's supposed to be for water color, but it is a B&W grayscale.bmp.  Changing the shade had no effect on my test map.

According to the TE readme, you should be able to change the base ocean color for the entire terrain.  Has anyone gotten that to work.  I've tried the above steps, plus tried a new ntt0000 & wntt0000 .bmps.  Neither worked, the ocean color seems to stay the default no matter what I try.

Anyone?

Is that when using Settings->Terrain Type Settings->Change Ocean color?  If so, I've tried it many times, but got nothin'.  Or is it your waterc .bmp?

In settings -- terrain type settings...high light "deep ocean" click on the "Change selected color" button then change the color values R,G,B

also make sure you seleck "ok" and then "ok" again....also save your terrain after you make the change or it won't take.

Tried setting the deep ocean to all red and that works also the deep ocean will be red and the shallower water will have a red tint to it.

Might be useful for your "Hell Map" project.

Thank ya brother.  The water color you used as an example is the exact one I need right now for updating a terrain I'm workin' on.  Great timing!

Just for anyone's future info, my mistake was when you open up the Settings->Terrain Type Settings and it shows the different terrain selections, water is highlighted by default.  You must click on water anyway to "activate" the highlight on it.  I wasn't doing that.  Thanks midi. :salute

Anyone else want to share something they've figured out when working with water, for info's sake?

I'm curious how to do "shallows" of different color, sort of like how Coral Sea has the turquoise water in the shallows. Was this done by changing the "river" color, or was there something else involved in this?
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
