HELP!!!
« on: November 18, 2009, 05:26:08 AM »
So about a week or so ago I went into my facebook and found an old friend sent me a message with a video. I opened it and the video didnt play so I closed it but had problems doing it. Ever since then a message pops up on my screen every 8-15 minutes asking me to right the words I see in the box(the words are all different looking). Is this a virus or something else I dont know about? I know almost nothing about computers and would really appreciate some help on this :salute

Junkey, I caught the same bug,   U can use SUPER ANTI SPYWARE.  http://www.superantispyware.com/

it is free.   but when u try to download it using an infected computer the virus will block ur access and send u to a roadkill page.

I had to download it on a friends puter and burn it on a disk , then install it on my cpu.

  Good luck,

so much less hassle and worry to just format, some virii have a nasty habit of appearing to be gone when theyre really just hiding ........ unless you were smart enough beforehand to use an image program like Acronis or any of the other lesser titles....... if you didnt before....... you should for the future

Not necessary depending on the virus infection and you didn't mention the fact that using such a setup any changes or updates you make to your system have to be updated in that image which doesn't always work. Then add the time and effort to learn how to "do it right" as well as making the one "critical mistake" that ends up with you reformatting the hard drive anyway.

Just be careful what you click on in any of the social networking sites...all of them have malware pasted everywhere.

One of my battle buddies said I should re format my computer but he said I would have to take it somewhere to get this done. Is there anyway I can do it myself, Im not good with computers but I have common sense. Also I did a scan with my anti-virus and it showed nothing, is this normal too?

also thanks for the help already :salute

You just need a OS disk to reformat. XP, Vista, W7.

After making a "clean install" image your OS then make about 3 more as you build up, like another image after the drivers, another image after the updates to the OS, put just the aplication software you find critcal(absolute). Should end up with 4 or 5image files hoping you have the extra drive for this. Then if you have problems you can allways go back to a image without having to reinstall all over again.like mentioned above, there may be updates of drivers to change in your image file and other programs to add. Also with 4 basic image files, if one is corrupt still have 3 more.
This is the way I doit and I know there are other opinions. The last computer I had I used my basic images for 5 years. I never ever did reinstall windows with a disc.
I made mistake there. i should say i never reinstalled windows from the windows disc. Besides keeping images on a second drive I also had the first 2 images on seperate  DVD disc.

yep I have my standard clean install image.... then several more after each crucial addition I made......... then I have a couple of "running" images that I rotate periodically....... whenever I create a new image I delete the older of the 2 "running" images...... this way I always have a couple of recent images as well as my original install and program install images......... and I keep several copies of all my original images across a few HD and discs............

creating an image takes (depending on amount of data being imaged) 5-10 minutes............ restoring images takes 10-15

anytime I click on a link that I later think was even questionable its a simple as clicking a couple of buttons then walking away and having a cup of coffee......... come back and everything is restored and ready to go

not much of a learning curve there

did any of your anti - virus software detect what virus it was junky?

My g/f is adamant she didn't click on a video message from facebook and deleted it but low and behold she contracts one like the little facebook potato she is!

For the sake of my poor old P4 machine that took me into battle several times without failing It would be nice to know where it came from before I keel it.....
