This week (and maybe next, too)
« on: November 19, 2009, 08:06:58 AM »
If people enjoy this setup we might let it run two weeks.

- oldman (and let us know if you DON'T enjoy it)

MARE NOSTRUM

Welcome to the sunny Mediterranean.

This setup is loosely placed in the late 1943
period. Geographical ownership has been
adjusted to maximize the ability to run
different types of missions, as well as to
enable the usual AvA combat. The focus is
on tactical combat, so there are no heavy
bombers.

The Knight bases are neutral. Please do
not capture them. We have found this map
to be very sensitive to a variety of factors,
PARTICULARLY the capture of neutral bases.

Please don't flame me too heavily on this, but I feel this setup could be improved by the removal of the Bf 109G-2 and Spitfire Mk.IX. As is, it will always tend to degenerate into "duels" between these two, because lets face it, they are clearly the two best craft for that sort of thing in this setup. Yes I realize both were present in the "real world", but the arenas of AHII- especially AvA with its limited numbers and deck-are manifestly NOT the "real world". This would leave the 109 and Spit families still represented by the G-6 and Mk.V respectively, still two potent planes, but would also give  choosing something *else* from the Allied and Axis lineups real validity in the cost/benefit sense.

Heh.  I thought it was a direct hit by the dreaded wife ack.  Good to know it was only an electronics problem.

If it weren't totally imbalancing, the Spit VIII would be much more appropriate than the Spit F.Mk IX which was never in the Med. Theatre, but it would be so.....

Maybe yank out the Mk IX and put the Mk VIII in as a perk plane.
