Define tile...

Are you looking for custom textures and using the stock tile clutter?

Or are you looking to create a tile with new textures and tile clutter like trees, bushes, hills and etc?

The difference is huge....

That's a good point...
I'd just like to know how to use custom tile textures in the Editor.
Thanks!

Starting from a new terrain....

Click File-New, select the size and remember the name you saved it under, now close the TE. Open the saved file in the AHTerr folder found in the Editor directory and create a new folder called texsrc.

Now sure your texture is in the correct form, 8 bit .bmp format or 256 color in some paint software.

In the main folder for the editor itself there is a help file, read it at a later date. It will tell you what texture number corresponds to the texture selection in the editor menu. In this case we will name your new texture ntt0001 which should be labeled grass.

After you have relabeled your texture ntt0001 place it in the texsrc folder and your nearly set. Open the TE back up and open the file again, everything with a grass texture should be your custom .bmp. For underwater textures the process is the same with a few exceptions, the name will be wntt0001. Any water with grass texture underneath it will now show this instead of the stock or custom grass .bmp.

Its important to note that when I say grass I mean in the editor, the texture itself could be anything you choose. If your texture shows up as black you have saved the texture in the wrong format, not being in 8 bit .bmp (verses 24-32 bit) is the most common problem

For online purposes 1024 by 1024 is the game standard for main textures. The under water (wntt00XX) textures can be 1024 or smaller as long as its a square .bmp.

You can run 2048 squared (even 4096 to a lesser exent) without to much trouble if you wanted to offline though.

I always use 512x512 myself.  I find the detail is still good enough and it helps to keep the file size smaller.  That's just my preference though.

For some reason I can only get them to work for a PTO terrain and only for terr0001 (grass). Any solutions?

To have an ETO tile set, in your terrains root folder create a text file called "defset.txt".
Put the number one in this textfile "1" thats it notheing else in there.
That will change your terrains tiles and textures to an ETO set.

The pto set is the ntt000# series, the eto set is the ntt100# series.

Use midi's text file, defset.txt to change to the eto set, but I think you know that already. Customize the pto or eto sets, they're the only ones that will show in the TE, ntt1001.bmp at 512x512 preferably.
