Mosquito Bombload

2584 Mosquito FB Mk. VI built.  But only 300 of them (Series 1) were limited to 250 lb bombs internally.  Why can't we have the vastly more common Series 2 with 500 lb bombs in the bomb bay?

Waaa!  :)

I agree.. doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to be honest.  Where there any other differences between Series 1 and Series 2, other than the bombload?

I honestly think that the Mossie is one of the best attack planes in the game right now.  However, I also think the 250 pounders are worthless.  Also, couldn't the Mossie carry bombs AND rockets on the wings, or just either or?

Carrying 500lbs bombs inside and out would be nice, as long as we get a way to tell if we've selected the internal bombs or the external ones.

CC, why not 4 500lb?, a 2K bomb load would be very usefull for atack mishions, i would take a p 38 over the mossie simply because of that diference(although the 20mm arament on the mossie does make up for this a bit)

I think you may have nailed the reason we have the 250s in the bay instead of the 500s.  How would you tell which set you had armed?  They'd both show the same thing on the panel.

First off... I love the Mossie and thanks HTC for making it!!! I know this is the dumbest thing to say, but flying this just feels right... It feels like the way I imagined a Mossie to fly.

About the bombload though...

It's too bad... The Mossie is a coffin if ya wanna try and fight in it, but it'd be a great Jabo AC. The problem I'm having is that I am really starting to debate taking the Mossie for Jabo or going back to the F4U. The Mossie just doesn't compare if it can only carry this small load.

Having the proper (or at least the the most common version's - by far) loadout for the Mossy would at least put this plane in a category where it would make sense to take it for an attack role over planes that weren't as well known for this role.

As it is... you wouldn't choose to use it for A/A, and there really isn't any reason to choose it over the F4U, P47, P38 etc. for A/G... when the latter planes can take more ord *and* do A/A. The only distinction this plane might have had is sadly not present... and I'm just not sure why it would be limited like this.

On another note... I thought the Mossy was great on gas... I haven't done any testing or anything, but I'm running out of gas a lot...

I'll try to look for some hard numbers on this bird, but it does seem to be low on gas.
here is a test i did to compare fuel burn rates among diff A/C:

Another couple of problems:
It seems there is no way to individually release the internal bombs.  It's all or nothing.
And supposedly this plane could carry rockets AND 250 lb wing bombs.  I don't have photos of this but some books say it was so.

If HTC have done better research than I (i.e. primary sources instead of books) and they feel that these things should be true, then I defer to them.  But if these are omissions then I hope they are fixed.

Did some reading.  The pilots notes specifically mention carrying rockets and drop tanks at the same time.  Not sure about rockets and wing bombs yet.
