Actually I've been flying the 47M at high altitudes lately. When I put the smack down on another plane I usually don't follow him/her to the deck. I will let friendly fighters finish them off. I usually get the kill 3/4 of the time. I'm pretty good at landing rounds in the fuselage area without any visual damage. So you are probably hitting on some sloppy seconds.
