first off you pinged the web server, not going to tell you much. Ping one of these addresses....

Axis vs Allies, Dueling, Early, Mid, Late War Blue Main Arena Server Address: 206.16.60.39
All WW1 Dogfight Arenas, Training, Late War Orange: 206.16.60.41
Special Events: 206.16.60.38

Next let it run for a bit. I set mine to ping once a second, and let it run for a minute or two. The wider band of time give a better picture of whats happening.

You still only ran it for 9 seconds, not a good sampling. Picture a couple of people holding their finger in front of you an inch away from your eye, seconds go by and then you blink. Just as you blink one of them poke you in the eye. Who did it? Odds are much better that after getting poked in the eye 20 times you would know which one was doing it....if you weren't blind yet  :D

Same holds true for these ping plots. The longer you run it, the better the chance you'll spot where the problem is.

oh and back on topic.... each of those "*" are bad.

That looks like the start of most of your problems...I think it belongs to ATT could be Qwest it's between the two.

ATT is causing a lot of breakdowns, not sure if they are upgrading equipment or what but seems like every tracert I've see that shows a hop to an ATT asset, it's messed up.

Your issues start in hop #5 within Charter's network.  The number of routers changing in Charter's network indicate they are either working on a problem, or they have a problem.  In either case, they are the only ones who can answer the question.

Just know the first contact at Charter is only going to test your local Internet connection and they will tell you every thing is fine.  You have to get your problem escalated to Tier 2, or higher support before you will get someone who might actually be able to help.

There also appears to be a problem on the return trip from the server back to you.  I'll run some traces to find out what is happening there.

The gateway from Qwest (not sure why they are in the loop, this look suspect to me) to AT&T also appears to be overloaded.

Overall, I strongly suspect some routing issues are involve here, unless Charter is dumping its Tier 1 connections to the Internet and buying connectivity from QWest now.  That would tell me Charter is in serious financial trouble.

Thanks Skuzzy, I'll set up a appointment with Charter and show him these print outs.  I'll let you know what they say.

I believe you are not understanding what the Skuzzymeister is advising.  You have to be FORCEFUL in your dealings with these internet tech support reps!  The first contact is going to blame everything on somebody else as they have no clue what they are doing and are probably in India or Taiwan.  You have to advance the contact to the next tier of support or higher before you get somebody that even understands what the problem is.  The bottom line is that you have to keep demanding to be bumped up to the next level (tier) of support and make yourself a pain in the first rep's buttocks until he/she/it gives up and bumps you to a more qualified person to talk to.  This is what globalization has done to us and it's only going to get worse and not better.

All the Best...

Ya Jay I figured I was already going to get the run around.  Appointment time was at 1 today and I was working and couldn't make it here but my brother came by for me and let him in.  Of course everything looked fine and he left.  I talked to my brother and I said "what he left" grrrr chase him down so he did.  I talked to him for 15 min over the phone and discussed the problems and he said right off that charter don't support gaming and I said that's because you have a lot of packet losses (laughter) just being honest.  He gave me his personal cell and he's suppose to come back tomorrow.

I'm kinda clueless when it comes to this stuff so if you could give me some ammo to use when he arrives I'd appreciate it.  I pinged again just because I figured the more the better for you all to evaluate so here it is

This is a resource not a lot of people know about... I was having flaky internet issues for awhile too so I posted my problem here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/charterdirect

He worked with me.. asked for some info while it was acting up... a couple of days later it was mysteriously fixed on its own... I'm guessing they had some server issues on their end that got resolved (but I did get a new(er) modem out of the deal).

You'll have to create an account for that website, but it's free...
