Ford designed the Raptor as a desert truck. It is very well set-up for that terrain. It's certainly not a rock crawler, or suitable for tough trails at Moab or the Rubicon. However, in the open desert, it will truly rock. Think of it as the ultimate factory prerunner, at least for now.
Dodge has noticed, and at the Easter Safari at Moab last week, they showed off a pre-production RamRunner, fitted with a very strong Hemi and a similar desert oriented suspension and drivetrain. Note that when released, the RamRunner can be ordered at any Dodge dealer, but will not be street legal or carry a warranty. They also showed off the new PowerWagon, upgraded for improved off road performance. That still leaves the Raptor in a class by itself.
