Question about video card settings?
« on: August 10, 2001, 07:48:00 PM »
Could someone look at these settings and check to make sure I have them optimized for Aces High? Or have you any recommendations? I get about 40 to 50 fps in MA. The beta does not seem to work very well on my machine.

I also kill everything but the basics from memory before playing. I usually overclock my card all the way for the duration of play (with no problems to date).

Are these settings the best for AH?

How about the best settings for AH DirectX enabled?

Computer:

Pentium II 400Mhz
128K Ram
Windows 98 Updated
14 Gig Drive
17 inch monitor
Run 1024 x 768 32 bit in AH

(I know I need to get a newer processor and motherboard, but this is what I have to work with for now)

Video Card:

Creative Annihilator 2
Creative: GB0010
Processor: Geoforce2 GTS
Mem: 32 Meg
Driver: 4.12.01.0650
DirectX: 7.0
OpenGL: 1.2.1
2AGP (side band addressing mode not checked)

Direct 3d Settings:

TEXEL:

HARDWARE ANTI-ALIASING:

Enable hardware anti-aliasing: on
Force anti-aliasing in all apps: off
Anti-aliasing level: 2x2 (special)

BUFFERING:

Adjust Z buffer depth to rendering depth if unequal: on
Enable alternate buffering technique: no

MONITOR:

Vertical sync mode: Default
Render no more than 3 frames ahead

MIPMAPPING:

Best image quality

EMULATION:

Enable fog table: on

OpenGL:

TEXTURES:

Color depth: Desktop
Cache: 14 mb

FILTERING:

Use fast linear mipmap filtering: no
Enable isotropic filtering: no

MONITOR:

Wait for vertical sync: yes

HARDWARE ANTI-ALIASING:

Enable full screen anti-aliasing: yes 2x2
Anti-aliasing quality: High-High Mipmaps

CPU:

Disable support for enhanced CPU instruction sets: no

BUFFERING:

Thanks,

Rogue

Turn off Anti Aliasing.  It's likely using up a lot of performance if in use.

Apart from FSAA, don't you really need DX8 for the Beta?

Hmm on a P2 400, your GTS is kinda wasted but anyways, about your settings:

Turn on Fast Linear Mipmap filtering (small fps increase)
Go to 16 bit colour
Set mipmap quality to Blend
TURN OFF FSAA

Update your drivers, 12.41 is the most current "Official release"
Get Dx8a
