its malware.had the same thing recently. restart in safe mode, run the microsoft malware removal tool. seemed to take care of it for me.

doubt it, many websites embed loads of google rubbish. I block these types of google services @ l7 on my firewalls (commercial) to kill this rubbish, I also block facebook stuff as well (the consequences of embedded facebook junk on websites now is scary).

But seriously, Firefox with the Adblock and NoScript addons could be configured to not allow anything that goes to a google domain name, and that's a pretty good start.

Edit the file he references.  The effect would be that any attempt to go to the listed domains will redirect to the localhost, since the first DNS lookup is the hosts file.

It actually serves to mask the real problem.  For some it is probably easier to do this than to spend the time to fix it.

i doubt its malware as its not a redirect or anything. I think it is just scripts or stuff google uses to track traffic and stuff... but it still sucks imo. and I dont see any google software installed on my system or any browsers (heck I dont ever install any browser toolbars or any of that sort of thing).

i'll try the noscript addon and we'll see.

just for the heck of it, i'd listen to skuzzy, and check for spyware, or maleware. you seem to have missed the part where he mentioned that something could be imitating google.

That's under assumption that there is a local problem which should be checked of course.

Adding preemptively ads and exploit sites to host file can benefit anyone.
