Latest Nvidia Drivers - 4## owners
« on: September 23, 2010, 06:09:17 AM »
The latest drivers from Nvidia (260.63) will not only improve your game performance across the board (7-29%) but the latest installer also allows for cleaning of previous drivers (thorough) and  allows you to prevent the installer from adding those HDMI audio drivers you dont want (you know... the ones that are causing you trouble).

While Im waiting on Evga to release their own I am using the Nvidia release and so far no problems and (better yet) I have already seen improvements in certain games/applications.

If you are experiencing the issue with your game going back and forth from video to black to video to black... update.

Evga has also announced the release of the new 450 series of cards. http://www.evga.com/articles/00577/

Newegg listing added for an example.

Did you ever have problems with their betas?

I heard there was issue some months ago with a Beta driver causing cooling problems.

The only problem I have had was with the black screen issue. The 480 (and other HDMI cards) includes an audio side and in the case of the 480 it loads up four instances of "High Definition Audio Device" in the 'Sound, video and game controllers' section of Device Manager for each core. In my case I had twelve instances on one machine and eight on all the others. I already had two audio devices (X-Fi Titanium and HTO Striker) and the Nvidia device does not play well with other devices (particularly Realtek).

If you want to use HDMI audio you dont want the other audio devices or so I have been told but in my case I didnt want the HDMI audio so I disabled them all. I believe when Nvidia releases a driver like this and it takes Evga and the others a little while to get updated that the Nvidia drivers ARE Betas in concept if not reality. I prefer drivers from the manufacturer. This release from Nvidia has proven to be very reliable for me to this point for AH RoF WoP OFF and FSX.

EDIT: Of course if you are using an older card and you install an updated driver like this you can see how anything might happen.
