Microsft Sidewinder Pro Force Feed Stick
« on: September 06, 2010, 04:32:55 PM »
I still have it and use it.
On occasion, the stick goes haywire and starts shaking uncontrollably. Most notably, when I am flying a bomber formation and it's main plane is dead or if the drones are damaged. Also the FW190s, NIKIs are also affected by this issue. Nothing has seemed to work for me........until now!  :D

I opened the Clipboard Options menu in-game, selected Controls/Force Feedback then dialed down all of the settings to 20%. That did not fix it, only made it less noticeable. I unchecked the "Enabled" option above the Force Scale slider and now I have not had any incidence or further issues. Been in bombers, NIKIs, and FW's so far it's still working.
Mind you, there is still the force-feed inputs on the stick, it's still returning to center, adds pressure when in a climb or dive or hard turns, guns still recoil... still all parts of the WindowsXP Setting(s) are working without failure.

Hope this may help some die-hard MS FF Stick users. My CH Gear is in storage in my file drawer, pedals under the table already...but I am not giving it up just yet!

You have to enable and disable it every time you enter or leave an arena Ken, apart from that its slightly different in its pull forces before the update. The argument people seem to be using is its an old stick and microsoft no longer support it, I don't recall any update from microsoft causing these problems, I reinstalled the pre update version of AH and my stick worked just peachy + had the old pull forces.

Whatever has been done won't be undone because we are in the minority now I guess  :headscratch:

The uncontrollable shacking is due to damage, turn that setting off.

Q: When you fire your guns and rolll, does the recoil effect mute by any chance?

I noticed the same problem with my G940.  I think it's more of a bug than a problem.

When the plane I am in is damaged quite severely (missing half a wing, stabilizer, etc) I get the shakes.  If I eject the shakes continue while I'm in a chute until I either end sortie or die.  Same thing goes if a bomber is damaged in the same way and I switch to another bomber, even if the other bomber is not damaged at all.  It's almost as if once the game tells the stick to start shaking, it only tells it to STOP shaking when the sortie is ended.

I did the same thing as you.. turned down the FF volume.

I haven't noticed a need moving to different arenas but will recheck again. I have the Sidewinder software that came with the stick and on my new PC (XP) I can't modify the stiick settings/buttons because the software goes nuts too. I use the profile from previous installations. This may be part of the issue for me as well. As I stated, I will continue to use it for as long as it works!  :)

I'll look at that as well, thanks.... and   No, I have no sound issues while firing.

Same here. Just was getting more annoying over the years and I started digging one day. Certainly not a total fix, but a workable solution for me and hopefully others too.

As an afterthought, My stick also went from a low FF setting to MAX...it took a lot of energy to even move the stick sometimes. I usually release the stick and it returns to normal-most of the time. Sometimes exiting AH and then relaunching AH that fixes it. Reminds me of a muscle spasm or charlie horse in the intensity of the sticks stiffness. Weird!
