USB Saitek X36 + USB CH Pro Pedals Driver Conflicts?
« on: June 15, 2000, 06:46:00 PM »
I listened to the siren song of various people in here who've sung the praises of this set up.  I ordered both from FlighSim Central and received a nice email from them asking me
1. Was I aware that you couldn't connect the CH Pro USB Rudders to the Saitek.  I replied yes I was and that I was using them on Aces High which would support them both separately.
2. To that reply I received another nice email again warning me that Saitek tells them that there would be driver conflicts.

Now, I've got till early tomorrow to stop the order if there will be a problem.  Please only those that actually have said double USB set up on a PII 450 or the like let me know your experience.

Beeg,
I have an X36USB with gameport TM elite rudders. I had some quirky issues but with patience I resolved them. It is my understanding you will be virtually pain free in your set up because USB is better for both, if i had the extra coin i would of spent it on usb pedals but i got a great deal on the TMs about 30 bucks out of my pocket. If you encounter issues just 1st get SGE 1.4, reload drivers,
and pay close attention to Ranger Bobs set up instructions you should have no problems then.

So, anyone who has the Saitek X36 USB Combo + CH Pro Pedals USB?

I digged the following in this thread:

Went to X35/36 USB with CH rudders (USB) everything works just fine... Never going back to gameport/dos stuff...

Also, this thread mentioned this Combatsim.com review, from which this is an exerpt:

We decided to configure Aces High using the X36 USB combo and USB CH Pro Pedals as a test. Even though the stick/throttle combination and pedals are plugged into separate ports, and are recognized as separate devices in the control panel, Aces High's in-game joystick configuration menu will see both of these devices, allowing the user to configure them accordingly. We have every button and axis on this setup mapped to a function in Aces High, including the toe brakes on the Pro Pedals, and we have to say that this functionality is a HOTAS programmers dream come true.

I hope this means there are no serious problems. I'm interested too in this same X36 USB + CH Pro Pedals USB (well it's the only USB full HOTAS combination), and I plan to order them just after my return from WBCon...

Please report on the product when you get it.

Hey, dr, if you're lucky, you'll win one of those pieces of gear at the con. We got a whole truckload there!!!!

(OK, so that was a blatant plug for the WB con. I'll make another comment to make this relevant for AH).

I, too, really wish the controller companies would get on the stick (bad pun) and solve this USB problem. I wonder why this wasn't worked out while USB was still in the delivery room. I think the delay might be longer waiting for various games to patch up and offer support for multiple devices.

i have that setup, saitek usb combo, chpro usb pedals....works fine.  You have to map the rudder control to the pedals and away from the rudder jobber on the throttle

I am currently using the Saitek USB x36 combo and CH Pro USB Pedals with no problems.

The box indicates that they will not work together, because most games are not set up properly.  Aces High has been properly programmed to allow for a very easy set up for these two USB devices.

Simply install as per the instructions. They will both show up in Windows Joystick Controls and work fine.

Then as noted in the above post be sure to map the joystick in Aces High such that the Rudder is mapped to the USB Pro Pedals. It's as easy as that and we have the folks here at Aces High to thank for programming the sim that way.

My previous posts were about how to get the X36 combo USB to work with an older analog set of pedals. That takes some setting up in windows, but if both are USB it's a piece of cake.

Once you go USB you will never go back to gameport stuff.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I didn't win one of the multiple X36 combos at WBCon, nor did I win one of the multiple CH Pro Pedals USB.

I got to try both of these though, thanks to fellow virtual pilots. It would take me quite some time getting used to it (big step up from MS SideWinder 3D Pro), but I'm going to order them.

Two USB controllers will mean I will fly WB less though.

Look at the positive side.

Flying WB less may be a good thing. That way you can spend more time flying AH.

I hope your on Aces High here, but if not flate rate online flying is the way to go.

I noticed the following and am wondering if any of you know how to map, or configure, the toe pedals on the CH USB Pedals so they can be used as toe brakes in AH. I haven't figured this one out as yet.

Also, this thread mentioned this Combatsim.com review, from which this is an exerpt:

Thanks all for the input.  I must have done something which corrupted my AH set up file. In any case I cleaned house and reloaded and even went so far as re-installing the Saitek and so far so good.

Well, I finally found two Canadian online stores who sell the products (nobody in my area sells CH stuff nor the Saitek X36).

Compusmart sells the CH Pro Pedals USB for CAN$190.

The CD-ROM Shop sells the Saitek X36 Flight Control System (USB) for CAN$164 (US$103).

I'll have a shot at that toe brakes problem next week.

I got my CH Pro pedals USB today. I took my shot at setting up toe brakes to left and right brakes. Here is how I did it.

Axis X on the pedals is the left toe brake. Axis Y is the right toe brake. I went into the Joystick setup, clicked on Select Joystick, and bound AH control button 9 to the Pro Pedals X axis, and AH control button 10 to the Pro Pedals Y axis. Of course, in my case buttons 9 and 10 weren't used. Use buttons that aren't used in your setup.

In Stick Mapping, Flight Keys, I set Button 9 to Left Brake and Button 10 to Right Brake.

Even if the X and Y axes are analog, this works. But on takeoff and landing I have to be veeeeeerrry cautious not to press toe brakes even a single millimeter or the brakes will be activated at a veeeeeeerrry unfortunate time.    So I push on the pedals with my heels.

Darn, my gunnery and ACM will be shot to hell for a while until I adjust to pedals.
