If anyone wants to buy an Abit K7A motherboard with an Athlon Classic 700mhz and 512mb of PC133 memory email me at aahola@pacbell.net

I'll sell the lot for $150.00

I don't think there is an issue with any of that stuff. I think that there are issues with the ammount of stuff I have in the system.

Make sure you download the newest bios update as well as the newest VIA 4in1 drivers or your Athlon XP won't be compatable

Will I need the Via 4 in 1 drivers with Windows XP?

Staga, I wasn't planning on it.  I was planning on using the 9gb drive as a system drive, the 18gb drive as the program drive and continuing to us the 2gb drive as my backup drive.

Should I use different disks for the temporary and swap files??

Karnak...if that board has an AMD chipset, should be no reason to install the 4-in-1s.

I made a 1 gig partition on my HD and made that my swap file. Seemed to help performance a bit.

I use an Adaptec 2940U/2940UW PCI adapter with multiple drives and set mine up as follows.

You should place the swap file on a 2nd disk, <your fastest drive> it will help prevent fragmentation of the disk your OS is on.

The SCSI bus allows multi-tasking and is more efficent than IDE drives .

Use a disk utility and move the swap file to the beginning of the disk as it will give you  better performance. <I use Norton Speedisk>

yes you will need the 4in1's for the southbridge. I have that exact same Motherboard.

I would recommend using a seperate disk for the swap file for better performance. With XP it's easy to set up where you want the swap file to be. I don't know why you would use another seperate disk for the temp file though.
