DX8 Beta - worth the risk ?? - what's to gain??

Keep seeing posts about Direct X 8 Beta.

I'm a bit of an anorak about Betas - like trying new stuff but Direct X is a bit "core" to the system and so there is definite risk to install. So - what are the benefits ?? is it worth it??

it totaly hosed my system , ohh i got direct x 8 runin but the beta ran out and each time i started i got no less than 12 messages that this beta had expired . well at the time i could not for the life of me find the new beta and get this you cant uninstall it.had to re format to fix it and wont so it again soon want a me disk cheap?

p.s. there was no difference in frame rate or it was worse . screen looked identical. battle com is part of it ( guess who owns that?)  so now we have to have battle com .
and a cruddy control panel that i didnt get , meby it really is full of cool features
but for me it just sucked from minute one.

Don't know but running a beta of DirectX 8.0 is probably not a real smart idea. None of the drivers currently available will take advantage of the new version features. So you get none of the bennies and all of the pitfalls of this software. The current download available is DX8 RC1.
And you do not have to make use Battle Com, it is available, but who says you have to use it?
