Command of Task force
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:30:01 PM »
The ranking system allows a lower ranked player - presumably more experienced/more rounded/more invested - to take control of a task group away from a player with a higher rank.  This is good, most of the time.  When it's not good is when the person who has control of the task group is across the map, doing something else, and won't release control of the TG.

What I'd like to suggest is a when the calculation is made to determine whether a player can take control of the TG away from another player, that both rank and distance from the CV are entered into the formula, so that if low ranking player A is no where near the CV, player B with a higher ranking but who is at the CV could potentially take control, presuming combination of rank and distance outweighs that of the lower ranked player who's farther away.

How much to weight rank versus distance is an exercise in judgment that I leave up to you, should you guys decide it's something that's worth implementing.

<S>, Hope you guys had a happy turkey day and keep up the good work!

I say the CV controller MUST be on the CV or in its guns in order to turn it. otherwise you cant... Makes things alot better than having ship control stolen just when the bombs are about to hit the CV

I disagree.  Who do you think is generally more likely to be best at controlling the CV such that they should be granted the ability to take control of the CV from someone else?

  • a very low ranked player who might be playing elsewhere on the map. (This is what we have now.)
  • anyone - even a two weeker - regardless of experience who happens to be on the CV? (This is what you are advocating.)
  • A low ranked player operating from or defending at the CV?

I know which one I want playing Captain Hazelwood!!

Another germaine factor I feel is that in my experience a gunner on the CV is often FAR less aware of the approach of a bomber box (unless it is approaching from the direction in which his guns face) than a pilot who is near the CV and has the ability to see more easily in every direction. And while IMHO there is nothing wrong with having the lowest ranked players who are fighting at the CV in control of it if they want it, you often see low ranked players who have control of the CV that are nowhere near it and won't relinquish control of it to those that are.  I think you open yourself up to exploitation if being "on" the CV overrides everything else.
