The only way it could work is to make your score visible only to yourself and to show ranks only at the end of the tour.
Eliminating rank all together might make people more willing to engage and not worry about saving face.
I like this idea.

By opting out people would not even rank in game.  There would be a certain freedom come from it I guess.

Would also like to see everyone be required to run 25 sorties in EACH catagory before rank could be enabled for that catagory and no
global rank would be enabled without all four catagories being scored with 25 sorties each.

I'm sorry but that's just stupid.

Lets just say an average sortie is 20 minutes.  Thats 33 hours of playtime per month.  For those of us who work for a living we spend a minimum of 8 hrs/day at work and 1 hr commuting (for me it's 12 hours at work and 1.25 hours commuting).  That leaves, after 8 hours of sleep, 7 hours per day of "free" time.  Of course, on top of work you have to wake up, take a shower, etc. and for those who are single, cook meals, eat and clean up.  There goes another couple of hours per day of your free time.  Now we're down to five hours and you're advocating forcing people to use 1/5 of it to play a game to get a rank?  There goes the lawn, keeping the cars running, home repairs, TV, etc., etc.

So what you're really saying is leave score and rank to those like you without a life right?
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Here lies one of the basic problems with the ranking system. Example getting 6 kills in fighter mode first sortie and never flying fighter mode again. I can see your point also.

Keep in mind not talking about you not having a score just talking rank here. So what I think Yeager is saying is once you got to then 25 sortie level your rank would then be displayed for that category and to have overall rank displayed you would need 25 sorties in each category.

Could you live with 20 sorties?

in the LW arena, that won't give you a decent rank, as you will lack the kill points necessary for it.
