Here's another place with step by step instructions for a 64 bit windows 7 install :
http://www.hardcoreware.net/how-to-playstation-3-controller-64-bit-windows-7-vista/I've used my Xbox360 wired controller in Aces High before. It's neat, but not nearly as good or as accurate as a joystick and throttle, and frankly, I think even a mouse beats it. The reason is, is that in Aces High, due to it's simulation nature, small changes in your input can mean fairly significantly ones on the plane you're flying. Joysticks and Mice are far more accurate than the analog sticks on either the PS3 or 360 controllers, and with the controllers, you tend to experience problems such as "nose bounce" where it's difficult to get your crosshairs exactly where you want them. It's not impossible to use PS3/360 controller for AH, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Also, before you go into Aces High, you have to make sure windows recognizes the controller properly to begin with by going into the control panel, and seeing if it sees it under the game controllers section, and make sure all the buttons and triggers and stuff show up. IF it's not showing properly in windows first, nothing you'll ever do will get it working in AH.
