We can't seem to keep a band together
« on: February 22, 2011, 08:36:50 AM »
Just when we think we're onto something good, one of the members decides he has too far to drive to practice, or his wife decides he's not spending enough time with her, or some other reason.

Im from an area that doesnt have alot of musicians, well, many that have the desire and discipline required. Most around here are perfectly content to play 1-4-5 crap, all with heavy blues influence. Seems like every guitarist in town had the same teacher. Me and the drummer have been the core of our project for the past 2 years, and have gone through 3 bass players and 3 guitarists. The first guitarist was good at lead solos, but lousy at rythym, but thought he was Eddie Van Halen, the second was good all around, but never made band practices, and was only interested in gigs, which most times sucked because of the lack of practice. The last guy was awesome, but had alot of his own stuff going on, and distance/wife was an issue.

Im about to give up on the idea altogether. The drummer and I talked lastnight an figured if we were going to play out around here, we might have to bite the bullet and play dumbed down stuff, one notch above "open mike" quality. I dont want to do this, but its tough finding people to play with who take it seriously. I have no illusions about being successful in the music industry. I just would like to be successful in our little pond and have fun, and sound good doing it.

Any ideas?
