anyone into dirtbikes?
« on: January 03, 2012, 07:43:34 PM »
I have a 1988 kdx 200 I am trying to get rid of.  The thing scares the crap outta me lol, would like 500 for it.  It has a new piston, rings, jug was renickaciled(or however its spelled)  It has an idle issue where it goes hi then low, was told its the crank seals but it starts easily in 4 or 5 kicks, I have rode it like this for 3 years.  I probably dont have 10 hours on it since I bought it. If anyones interested let me know

hey I live in NC,  I'll give you $2 for it......... cash  at that   :D

I have always enjoyed dirt bikes......... all the way back to when I was 8 years old and the chain came off my 75 while racing and my neighbors cousin ran me clean over and gashed the top of my head open......... after I had taken my helmet off after laying the bike down.......   39 stitches in the ol cranium......... Evel Knievel missed those 13 buses that day and I didn't get to see him jump... I was at the emergency room getting my head sowed up.....

3rd grade they called me Frankenstein   rofl........    but all the boys and some of the girls thought it was cool

seriously now.....   exactly what did you mean by  "2" ... what year is it?

edit:  I was serious about the accident also......

I never realized this, but I also am not sure, US or Europe? Those guys in Europe barely seem to know Kawi's exist.

I had a 1983 Honda XL 600. THAT was a handful in the woods, but I absolutely loved it, and miss it. Of my friends, I was the only one not to be tossed of it trying to kick it over. It took a certain knack to kick start it.

I collect and restore old racebikes..That RM would make a great bookend bike, for my 80 Elsinore 125.. 1980 was the last year for the Classic Aircooled 125 race bikes, all were waterpumpers the next year.. Last of the Twin Shocks too.. MX's golden age ended then.. A few yrs ago I would have grabbed that on the spot, and gladly paid the shipping too.. But due to the world situation, I'd rather buy some silver coins and cases of ammo.. Besides, I have too many in the shop already.. Some I haven't ridden in years.. Hang on to it until better times, it's a good one, still has value.. :aok

KDX 175 and 200 were the bikes to beat in that class.. Vs Yam IT's and Zook PE's.. Sure the euro bikes were around, but they priced themselves right out of the market, lol.. In the 80s, you could by a brand new KDX175 for $1800 or so.. But a New Husky KTM or Cagiva enduro bikes cost 4grand..
No contest, especially when the Kawi was a better bike!
I liked the TT500, but knew lots of guys who rode XR400 500 and 600s.. Great 4stroke torque motors, great trail bikes, but kinda heavy and slow like all 4strokes.. Couldn't really modify them either, and expect any longevity out of them.. One of my flattrack buddies raced them exclusively.. Always fraggin motors, but they were competitive for flattrack because of good steady power delivery.. Instead of the WHAMMO power of a big 2stroke..

I once had a chance on a Cagiva, but decided the repairs were too much, so I traded my sled for a 1975 Honda MR175 Elsinore instead.  :D
