weird graphics from new card
« on: September 08, 2012, 10:39:14 AM »
Got a MSI R6850-OC Cyclone card recently and have frequent weird goings-on when surfing the web (but playing AH has so far been unaffected).  Sometimes there are sections of words or images that are replaced by blocks of different colors or lines.  Hitting the refresh key usually clears it up but this stuff never happened before.  Already updated the drivers twice to no avail.  Any ideas folks?

Check if your card is properly seated into its slot. Using some canned air for the slot and some rubber rubbing on the card's golden pins wouldn't harm.

Check the power cord from the PSU to the GPU is properly seated. If possible, use another connector. Further, if possible, try another PSU.

Uninstall and reinstall FlashPlayer.

Run a GPU memory test, like Cuda GPU memtest, since anomalies often are a symptom of a failing memory chip.

Magical two letters... OC. Try reducing memory clocks, looks like your golden sample wasn't so golden.

cal if it is seated properly and your ps can handle it and you still have problems then return it as it maybe a bad card.  but there's a flash update that came out a week or two ago that is causing all kinds of problems.  for me I couldnt watch youtube at all as it had a green flashing screen with normal sound.

check this thread see if it gives you some ideas.

one more thing disable hardware acceleration that is also causing problems in some systems.

Thanks for the advice.   Also the driver keeps crashing and resetting lately.
Power supply is a Corsair 750 and never had any problems with the previous card (9800GTX+), so it must have to do with the new card.

Still zero issues when playing AH, which is a lot more stressful than surfing the web.

I would have thought that AH would give the card a hard time

Do you use Firefox? I had issues recently, very similar. I have a 6850-OC also, never had issues either. til a flash update. Reinstalled Firefox with the latest version, 15.1 and issue ceased.
