AvA numbers
« on: May 19, 2013, 03:13:59 AM »
Hello,

Once in AHI period the Combat Theater (CT) the predecessor of Axis-vs-Allies (AvA) was much more active.

Around 10% of all activity could be found in CT. I remember in a nice day there were 20-40 players on CT.

Can somebody explain why AvA is not as popular as CT was? Also are there times/days when there is a significant activity?

There were 0 players in the AvA when I logged in last night, so I went to the MA instead.  Not much point to buzzing about in a Ki-43 in an empty arena.

How you doing artik,
as time goes on, AH Players, the Game Play, the AH Community , etc........ goes through changes....... the biggest single event in AH history that really affected the numbers for the AvsA ( previously known as CT or Combat Theatre arena ).......... was when AH2 was in open beta and people were playing both the Aces High and the new Aces  High version 2 open beta............ that along with switching the name of the old CT arena from "Combat Theatre Arena" to "Axis vs Allies Arena", because the new still in development product at the time that Aces high was working on was also going to be called something like  "Aces High - Combat Theatre", and HTC needed the CT arena to be renamed to avoid any confusion.......

as for the numbers of players in the AvsA (er old CT if you prefer ), have always fluctuated........ granted it does seem like from memory that the most populated times was back in the 2000 thru 2004/2005 era, with a gradual decline as time progressed....

but memory of the past always seems grand when looking at it through rose colored glasses, <grin>

Those days of Urchin, Wotan, Big Max, Gremlin, Shane, Drano, Shifty, sparrow, Slash, Duke, Oldman, Bugs, etc etc etc..... were some awesome times of gut wrenching aerial dogfights.....
edit: my apologies for leaving anyone out, there were a bunch of players that we all enjoyed flying with and against!!!

If people did not grow older, and always stayed the same, then it might still be like that........ but if it was then at the same time, "no change" grows stale , and dies out just the same......

The AvsA Staff should be commended and thanked gratefully for working their rears off trying to keep the AvsA populated, no matter what it takes to do it......... their are players out there who love playing Aces High, specifically because the old CT or now renamed to AvsA arena exists.......... for if it did not, those players would not be playing Aces high......

this is how I view and think of it, and I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the "CT" / "AvsA", regardless of it's different arena setups, or if I was able to fly there or not with regard to RL issues

hope this helps

"When one considers just what they should say to a new pilot who is logging in Aces High, the mind becomes confused in the complex maze of info it is necessary for the new player to know. All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

Possible reasons.

The overall player base is smaller.

Older players leave the game and there are fewer who are interested in a more historical format.

Those that remain would sacrifice this interest for the immediate action they can find in the MA.

We cannot really use the perk point system, cannot really have a win the war map rollover. Therefore it's hard to have any sort of strategic game going on in there.

Some folks will only fly their favorite plane and it's not always available.

There is a lingering poison from many years ago, that the arena cannot seem to shake.

We can sometimes get players in there but it requires something special, a new map to check out, a special mission night etc.

Barring some sort of game play development that we can use, it will continue to be a struggle to consistently have numbers in the arena

I think the best hope for AvA is for the staged mission system to be incorporated, if it is ever formatted for use by the CM run arenas.

That way there would always be something going in in there and people might jump in just for some gunnery practice, as people see people in there they would join in and replace AI slots and you would have a good mix of real and AI players in large missions.

Inded. AvA numbers took a severe hit during the transition from AH1 to AH2 and never really recovered except for a very short period in late 05/early 06. For the last 2.5-3 years, the life signs (strictly in temrs of numbers/activity) are very weak. But then all AH numbers went down a lot, and I could think that this has a effect of concentrating the numbers in LW even more. You know, if nobody is there nobody will go there...

This is an important factor. When there were 2 LW mains one would usually fill up and then the other one would get the overflow. It's not the only factor, but most people will gravitate to the arena with the largest population.
