B-25H and HVARs
« on: June 05, 2013, 11:59:54 PM »
In a previous thread about the B-25J Ack Ack mentioned B-25H's carrying HVARs.  After doing a little research, I found some AARs from Marine units using HVARs in the Pacific. So that's my wish, that the B-25H's have the proper 8 HVARs wing armament option.

On multiple photos you can see the rails.

Could be a PBJ-H or might be a J model

by the way, according to the vmb-613 member's site...

Robert Yanacek did some more research on PBJs and found reference to the fact that during WWII the Navy experimented with launching and recovering a PBJ1H from the deck of a carrier.  The Navy did one launch and 2 landings with a PBJ with an arresting hook aboard the USS Shangri-La.  Although this was successful the Navy scrapped the idea.

so no on enabling carrier ops...

that's 1 launch and 2 landings...not sure how they did that. maybe it just means 2 landings using the arrestor hook to assist with landing.

my guess would be: test plane flown from land base to CV and lands using arrestor hook (landing 1), test plane launched as a proof of concept test (1 launch), test plane lands using arrestor hook after test launch and flight (2 landing), test plane off loaded via crane at dock rather than attempting 2nd launch.  Just a guess though.

and +1 for the HVARs on the B25H  :aok
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.
