Mosquitos and AP Bombs
« on: July 27, 2013, 09:29:11 AM »
I have been reading up on the mosquito and it said that the Mk VI was used by costal command for the Anti-Shipping role...
Wouldn't this mean the Mk VI carried 500lb AP bombs???

Not so far as I've read.  They weren't targeting battleships, but rather freighters and the occasional tin can or u-boat, none of which need AP bombs.

Ever try using the Me410 and its pair of 500 kg SAP bombs and a quick burst from its dual 20mm and quad 13mm's make (in single pass)?  It makes short work of a hanger.  Try it.  It is MUCH more satisfying that using a cookie cutter plane like the P51D or P38L, etc.   :aok

The SAP bombs alone do 2750 damage (1.25 x 1100lbs dmg, x 2 bombs).    :)

Mosquitoes in coastal command very quickly stopped using bombs and depth charges against ships and instead relied on AP rockets - the kind we don't have in the game. By 1945 these rockets were carried in a tree-like structure, somewhat similar to what the late P-38s used. I dont know if they created more or less drag than the rocket rails (that add a lot of drag in AH), but they could be mounted together with a drop tank on each wing.

Mosquito VI - twice the spitfire, four times the ENY.

Quad 13s?
In the loadout in the hangar, the Me410 gets quad 13mm, but two of them are for the barbette guns. I can see how someone would be confused.

Less drag, could be used for the 60lb rockets we have as well.  That was just the later method of mounting rockets.  If we had that as an option I'd actually use the rockets sometimes, but as it is I stay far from them due to the drag penalty.

yeah, sorry.  There is pair up front and a pair in the rear.  Too quick on the draw when typing.
