Ok...so I tried Twitter just because I didn't want to admit that I am old(ish  ) and have no idea. 
Just creating the account annoyed me.   
So I agree with this...

Then you're doing it wrong.

The name you choose is the right side of the @ symbol.  Once you get it set up, you can put whatever you want on the left side of the @.  Mine is Changeup@AHMuppet...

Also, I'm trying to make a Twitter list of AHII pilots, etc.  I have a whole 3 of them so far (including the HTC account)

Then you're doing it wrong.

What annoyed me is...add 5 more, add 5 more, add 5 more...then noticing the skip button that magically appeared at the bottom.
Then not being able to change or delete my profile pic or add a background pic...

I am there I got that part right...now what? lol
