Took my 2015 Mustang GT to the autoX today!
« on: November 14, 2015, 11:27:10 PM »
Went to an auto cross and beat up on some cars I shouldn't have. I beat my buddies ported heads/cammed C6 Z06 that is making 565RWHP (He just picked his car up yesterday from getting the ported heads/cam done ($7000) needless to say he left extremely pissed off  :D), a Paxton supercharged C6 GrandSport (making the same power as the cammed Z06), a stock looking C6 grandsport, a stock looking C6 Z06, and a bunch of other slower cars. I went out with a corvette racing club and they setup extremely long and fast courses. According to my odometer the course was just under 1 mile long and the majority of the cars were in the 60 seconds range. Fastest lap was with a race prepped C5 z06 that went 53.064 seconds. I did a best of 59.279. My only mods are BMR cradle lockout and MBRP street catback. Driver Mod  :rock

Stock Mustang GT PP: 59.279
Cammed C6Z06 : 59.397
Stockish C6Z06: 59.687
Paxton charged C6 GrandSport: 63.683
Stockish C6 Grandsport: 61.347

Nice job and probably a testimony to the driver as much as the car.

Getting my hand on a 600RWHP Zo6 once, I quickly realized that balance is more important than power. When you get more preoccupied by driving on eggshell due to high power over your racing lines your timer takes a dump. Usually high power cars make the worst drivers as they rely on the power over keeping their speed thru turns (and usually come too hot in the turn too). Kind of like a Spitfire pilot or LA7 pilot in AH, they are not the best at ACM. :ahand

as for the GT:

Did you feel that cradle lock out helps in road course too, not only drag launches? or did it stiffen your rear too much?

My GT I had didn't bounce on the rev limiter, instead it kills the engine. I found that odd, is it the same for yours? (mine's a manual).

Or that car is very well balanced or even in track mode you still have some TC/SC. I was surprised how easy it was to drift the round-abouts. You can really hang the tail with minimal control input. Do you know anything about that?

I saw a video of a GT where the tach turned red at the limiter, do you know if it's a mod? I didn't find a setting for it.
Dat jugs bro.

The cradle lock out is a must do in my opinion. I really haven't done any drag launches in this car as I am trying to keep the tires as long as I can. I can tell you though that before the lock out kit I could always feel the rear of the car shift in the opposite direction of a turn I would be taking under power. It didn't feel like the tires were breaking loose, it just felt like the whole rear suspension was shifting slightly. I assume this is more pronounced on performance pack cars such as mine due to the torsen differential. With the lock out kit installed the car feels as one now. The shifting feeling is gone and the car just feels good. Here you can see the amount of deflection before and after the mod. I highly recommend it.

As far as the rev limiter goes mine does bounce off of it. My car is a 6 spd manual as well.

The tach turning red is standard I believe on premium model cars. It will only do it at night though. My car does it.

No doubt. With better drivers I should be way behind these cars time wise. I'm not going to lie though, it was fun hurting a lot of peoples feelings yesterday and being pleasantly surprised at my cars capabilities. This was my first time out to the auto cross in about 4 years and my first time in this car. I had a lot of rust to knock off while learning a new car. The first run was quite hairy to say the least. My buddy was looking into buying a new set of wheels and tires for his Z06 today. From all his trash talking leading up to the auto cross I had to jab him when he was down. It's what we do. I told him with slicks and a better driver his car is going to fly! He just grinned as he knows it's all in good fun.  :rofl

I will add that the new vette has been neutered as far as quickness and top speed. The 2006s and 2009s being the factory quickest so far. With the 2009s taking top honors in the art of quick.
