Been there before
« on: December 10, 2015, 01:53:39 AM »
well it was business as usual . this was my first flight so i felt a bit rusty as i always do when i first log on . i have noticed i feel a lot more smooth flying now not so much jerking motion.my big problem now seems to be setting up a shooting angle. i have the proper lead just either to high or to low on my shot or to soon or to late. 1 thing for sure all that training i did with Morfiend is paying off. the LA 7 that got me in this video i could of easily slipped out of after a couple more flights. enjoy.

Hi Mike,

Since you mentioned/requested my help in the other thread, I'll be happy to address this post.

The first question I have though is do you have the original AH films saved?  (Particularly of the first fight.)  Your YouTube videos are great, and I really like the music, but when it comes to training, the Aces High film file is much more useful.  Here's why:

First, there are important things we can't see in your video because YOU didn't see them.  Based on what I have seen in looking at several of your films, you are mostly in your forward (default) view.  I think you need to spend more time looking around you and orienting yourself relative to the cons around you.  Better use of your views (and the resulting better situational awareness) is probably the number one thing that can improve both your maneuvering and your shooting. (More on that below...)  This will take time and practice, but I have a couple ideas on how to help you with this when we can meet up in the TA.

Second, the AHF will allow you slow the game down and stop it at certain points to look at important decision making stages of the fight (decision-making being an integral part of situational awareness).  Using your AHF files, I'd be happy to do film reviews of your fights and point out specific spots where something needed to be observed or where a different decision might have been made relative to what an enemy was doing -- which you currently can't see in the YouTube video.

For a great example, watch this excellent film of Latrobe's on the subject of SA and decision making: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4vngMd2XCU

This kind of higher level situational awareness will lead you to better maneuvering and shooting, because you will be both maneuvering with a purpose and setting up better/easier shots.

Lastly, a great use of AHF is the ability to look at the fight from multiple perspectives -- yours, the enemy's and from external views.  When you also add the trails, a clearer picture of maneuvering paths is shown and will help you see different options, like Latrobe does at around the 5 min mark of the film above.

So, in summary, if you want feedback on your flying, it is MUCH more useful to provide the AH film file(s) and ask for analysis of those.  Keep making your entertaining YouTube videos with the great music though -- as I like those too!

Looking forward to working with you again soon, Mike.

For those of us playing this game for well over a decade, Aces High is more of a social club. The game just provides the framework. I keep logging in for the people and Pipz was the kind that you keep coming to meet again.
