I've had a home ice machine for years, a Kenmore 15" wide under counter model that would make cubes around 3/4 by 3/4 by 3/8 inch thick.  It uses a wire grid to cut the sheet of ice that the machine makes.  It's been repaired 3 times for water pump and other issues,  and now need another fix, mainly the compressor will not run now and I don't want to put any more money in it.

I was wondering what ice shapes your machine makes if you have a home one?  I was considering either an Ice O Matic nugget or Scotsman nugget machine but didn't know how long the ice may last in the summertime if I put it in a water jug to take to work with me.

So if you guys have a preferred brand or style of ice I would like to hear your opinion on it.

I use whatever the freezer makes, no preference other then they be frozen and cold

If you wrap the jug in newspaper it will keep cooler longer.

Why not just put the jug in the freezer, 1/3 filled with water overnight, and fill with water in the morning.

I keep an icecream bucket full of ice in the freezer, I use the standard plastic trays to make the cubes to keep the bucket full.

Ronder I have a scotsman cube maker.  The big deal with it is it makes crystal clear ice totally free of any contaminates.  Once you get used to crystal clear ice it is tough  to go back to cloudy ice. 

Over its 20 year life I have replaced the pump, the fan, two of the electrical controls and the sheet that covers the ice-water chamber.  These parts are not cheap.

Any storage bin that is not chilled will have ice that is near freezing temperature of water.  Now I can place my cube ice in the big freezer and drop its temperature to -2F.

Randy it's good.to know you know what I'm talking about.  There are several different  shapes to choose from now on cubes.  I have even considered a.Scotsman or ice o matic nugget ice makers.  I really dislike the cubes our regular refrigerator freezer makes after years of  a home clear ice machine.

Besides, we on the farm use more ice than the home fridge makes in a day.

As an Ice O Matic distributor, I recommend staying away from the IOM HISU050 or HISU070 ice makers. The ICE090 is a much more reliable unit.  That Kenmore unit you have was made by Whirlpool back in the day and was retardedly popular and reliable.  I get calls weekly to see if IOM makes a 15" wide unit to replace them and always lead them to the ICEU070.

The HISU series is made in Italy and is absolutely crap. 

The ice produced will be the same or better than the unit you have now. 

PS Scottsman is sister company to IOM and they sell the same crappy 050 and 070 under their label.
