Escorting bombers
« on: March 26, 2016, 08:34:28 AM »
This is an FYI, not a finger pointing session. read it, add to it, but please don't use it as a chance to point fingers. I'm certainly not!

folks that are assigned to escorting bombers, stay with your group. sometimes, in the FSO, you get close to another group going the other way. sometimes they are nice juicy bombers, that you really want to kill!!! resist the temptation and stick with your group! that's your job. radio in the location of the other birds, but stick with your assignment. Luckily we've(JG54) have always had great escorts, that stick to us like glue, but it does happen on occasion.

while JG54 got kicked out of the FSO for a few years for doing exactly that, I don't want that to happen to anyone else. this game should be about fun, not crime and punishment and/or personal vendetta's.

please don't run into what JG54 did, stick with your bombers! stick with your assignment.

This public service announcement brought to you by JG54: We keel you!!

After inspecting your bomber, jager1.  I deemed that you have not been in any contacted by any cons. I felt it would be justifiable to fixed that.   :D :bolt:

Goid job, Jg 54.  You guys are one of few groups that easy to work with and keep open communication.   :salute

All true. FSO is not the MA. Every squad is tasked a specific duty; bomb, escort, defend, etc. Escorts leaving their assignment to hit an enemy strike package does three things: it leaves their bombers unprotected, since it's unlikely the escorts will be able to catch up with them again; it leaves your defense force with potentially nothing to do if the enemy is destroyed or forced to turn around; and it makes your squad undesirable to work with because of being known to abandon the assignment.

So please think hard before abandoning escort duty to go off after an enemy package headed towards their target. For a few minutes of your own fun, you can potentially ruin the night for dozens of your teammates.

Same here. We (said F4Fs) fought defensively against zeroes but I ordered my squad do not engage the bombers. We never fired on a bomber.

for the record, this post is just something I thought of while flying. its not an attack, or even a suggestion of an attack on any group or individual people. its just about me having too much time to think about things while flying. when we saw the squadron of B25's headed the other way, it popped into my head about what happened to JG54 and thought I would share it. im still a little bitter about it, but I also didn't want anyone else to go through what we did. that's all, nothing more then that.

I've seen it happen before. Escort squadrons get tangled and buffs get shot down. I've always restrained my squad from engaging buffs in this manner just because they are simply somebody else's problem as far as I'm concerned.
I was not aware that it was against the rules to shoot down bad guys. I have been defending a base and have no bad guys show up so I do know that it sucks when this happens but as long as the escorts don't leave their buffs naked attacking their target I don't see how intercepting an inbound strike should be against the rules.
