PCIe 2.0 - 3.0.

my MB is an 4+yr old ASUS with PCIe2.0.
all nu vid cards are 3.0.

is there a bottle neck when adding a nu vid card for this old MB?

As long as the PCI-E 2.0 slot is at x16 lanes (I'm assuming you're referring to the slot your current vid card is in) then no.

The short answer is that 3.0 on the MB provides twice the throughput of 2.0 on the MB. That doesn't mean you'll notice the bottleneck on your 2.0 MB because you've never used a 3.0 Mother Board. 3.0 cards are supposed to be backward compatible with 2.0. A faster card should appear faster to you but since I don't know what you are running or what you intend to upgrade to I can't predict. Your fps could be worse if you choose badly. To see the full power of that new video card, you'll need to upgrade your MB, processor, and RAM. That's why the specs all say you need a 22(?) nm MBs.

Post your dxdiag and the card you are looking at. Only then can anyone advise you properly.
