The Invasion of France ! 1940

May 10, 1940 was Operation Fall Gelb (Case Yellow) also know as The Fall of France. Here, we offer May 13, 1940, The Invasion of France!

"German Forces are racing through the Ardennes and most of the Allied Forces are out of position in northern Belgium! The Axis have mowed through the villages of Luxembourg and Belgium! Commander, what are our orders!"

General Gamelin has been removed, General Manstein has fallen ill and new Generals are required. Will you step up, Sir!
If you are Allied, you won't suffer General Weygand's two day delay in stopping the German advance, I hope!

The History 

The Front Line:
Sedan (v118) on the Muse River (see jpg) was the first Axis goal in Operation Fall Gelb, but the French are rushing a weak Calvary screen from Sedan into block them in the Ardennes forest.
In this running, the battle lines are drawn along a north south line. The Axis have lost the element of surprise but they've still captured A184 and Bastogne, and overrun v185, v163, v153, v144, a147, v134, v128, and v119 and all points east. They have not yet deployed their airforce at A128.
The new Allied general has redeployed his forces at A151, v162, A97, and A118, in position to block the Axis invasion.





Objectives:

Major Allied Victory - Push the Axis East to the Rhine River.*
Minor Allied Victory - Hold the Axis to their starting bases.

Major Axis Victory - Capture a solid line of bases all the way to the Channel coast or Antwerpen A182.**
Minor Axis Victory - Capture any base along the Muses River, V162, V152, V118.

* Any base on the Rhine River will qualify.
** A line is any line of vehicle spawn points. Any base along the coast qualifies.

Start time and frame dates: 9pm EST Saturday Nights
Frame 1: September 3
Frame 2: September 10*
Frame 3: September 17*
*The battles will pick up with the field ownership as it stands at the end of the previous frame.

The RAF - A/Fs 97, 126, and 151
Spit 1 and Hurricane 1 (at A151 and A97)
Boston (at A126)

The Allied Armies
They own A177, A151, v162, A145, A126, v118, A97 and all bases to the west.

Neutral starting bases in play (initial battlefields):

Bases not in play:
Any base without a vehicle spawn point is out of play and doesn't count toward a win. There are no vehicles available at those bases except for a97.

Trigger points:
v173 or v152 or v121: Capture of any of these three releases the Panzer IV F and the M4A3(76)W.
v121: If the Axis capture v121, then Axis fighters are enabled at A128 and bombers at A147. Axis bombers remain at a disadvantage until then. Once Axis bombers move to A147 they are not disabled at A147 any later time.
v118+a89: If v118 Sedan and A89 are captured by the Axis, then the Allies loose A97 as their airfield for the remainder of the tour.

Settings:
Vox: Cross Country channel 223 monitored by the CMs and players
GVs: Unlimited lives.
Planes: Unlimited lives.
Bombers: Unlimited lives. No formations. 2000lbs of bombs Max. MA bombsight.
Manned Guns: Active.
All bases will have GV's, but not all bases will have planes.

Basic Arena Settings:
Fuel Burn Rate: 1.0
AI Ack: Man on the street annoying.
Protect Objects: On
KillShooter: On
Ditches Score Kills: On
Enable Flight Reconnect: On
Objects destroyed: Stays down for MA standard, including town buildings.

Town down for capture (a sliding scale*):
<20 players in the arena: 20%
20-40 players: 40%
>40 players: 50%
*player counts are based on players in-flight at frame start, not total arena population.

Radar:
Tower Only Radar: 39600 feet(6 miles) dot dar tower only, range ring active. ATC encouraged. 10 second delay
Radar minimun altitude 300 feet. darbar radar is the same.

Icons: 3k Friendly 0k enemy both Planes and GVs.

WarningFlags:
GVs: 1 miles
Fighters: 2 miles
Bombers: 3 miles

Weather: variable with probability of low laying fog.

Terrain: AvAeto

The AvA War concept:
Until such time as these tours draw more players, we will use close airfields and short flight to make up for low numbers. When the roster fills with more participant, we will extend the flight times by picking bases further from the front lines.

The History:
The early stages of World War II saw successful German invasions on the continent aided decisively by the air power of the Luftwaffe, which was able to establish tactical air superiority with great efficiency. The speed with which German forces defeated most of the defending armies in Norway in early 1940 created a significant political crisis in Britain. In early May 1940, the Norway Debate questioned the fitness for office of the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. On 10 May, the same day Winston Churchill became British Prime Minister, the Germans initiated the Battle of France with an aggressive invasion of French territory. RAF Fighter Command was desperately short of trained pilots and aircraft, and despite the objections of its commander, Hugh Dowding that the diversion of his forces would leave home defenses under-strength, Churchill sent fighter squadrons to support operations in France where the RAF suffered heavy losses.

To support the upcoming tour, there are several sources for field maps.

8thJinx has provided some printable field maps that may be of use. You'll need to right click each image and select 'Copy Image' and then paste it into MS Paint to save and print them. They are in this post.

Another scorce of printable maps are BowHTR's zip file found in this post.

I've provide some basic field maps for the in-game clipboard as a zip file with installation instructions in this post.

You missed a good one, and yes, these are a lot of work but it's fun as an admin to watch the fights and I enjoy watching a setup like this play out as intended. There's nothing quite like watching three 110c's attacking a base in AH3 without any icons showing. It rates somewhere between watching a movie and being at the best airshow I can imagine. Those 110s stood out against the great cloud system Jaeger installed. Too late I thought to get a screen shot.

the setup worked perfect. if you missed it last night, you really missed a great time. we had quite a few people in there and it was a blast.
The tank battles were intense! I always say in the AVA skins matter! well this case proved correct last night. the tanks were almost impossible
to spot, both from the air and on the ground!

<S> to fortis11, for taking as many kills as he did. I was starting to feel bad about killing him. 

The air battles were also something else. we had air traffic controllers call out incoming. we had air battles that
ensued chasing attackers that were hitting GV's or attacking GV bases. it was pure craziness!!
this is open to all players so feel free to join in! we have 2 more frames (Saturday nights) to go.

the Allies aptured 2 bases last night which puts them in the lead. <S>!!

the objective is to capture bases so everything is going according to plan......for the allies.
Axis we could use some help, bring friends next week! we need to push these yankee dogs back!

the setup is working great, the clouds turned out to be perfect. planes are easily spotted, even without icons. GV's, much tougher!

<S> to Hitech creations for making this work better for the AVA! I know he didn't do it just for us, but its great!!

the settings worked perfect this time around, as we have a better handle on what they do.
some of the setting were adjusted in play, for playability purposes. this is still a work in progress.
we need community input so feel free to comment as necessary. 

Hopefully we'll see more of you next week, join us for some realistic fun in Axis vs Allies!
