I took the lazy route and just used pre-finished trim and plywood for the top. And then I took the lazy route again by just buying using 4 sticks of Unistrut to make the frame. My only regret is spending as little $ as possible on a 5" hole saw because it oscilated like crazy and caused my dad's old Craftsman drill to catch fire (I was nice and replaced it with a Milwaukee). If i were to do it over again I'd use thin Unistrut because this thing weighs a ton, I could barely flip it over when I finished but then again, each leg is rated to support 3,000 pounds and that might be useful someday.
Total cost including bolts & spring nuts was about $175 and in the end I'm happy with it for now.
