Flying in 4k.....looks AWESOME, but....
« on: November 01, 2016, 02:55:54 PM »
Aircraft are an absolute bear to see.....outside of icon range...pretty much forget it.   Monitor size is not an issue (Sony 55" TV) mounted 3 feet from my chair over my desk.  Not sure if there is anything to be done as resolution goes up...but just thought I'd toss it out there, since the game is awesomely beautiful in 4k.

LOL..having just watched in 1080p I can see the issue gets lost.

Best viewed in 4k to fully grasp the issue.

Not too sure that other one got transferred in at 4k when I uploaded to Youtube. Here is another video with forced 4k in recording.

Youtube just takes a bit to make 2160p available it seems.

This is not something we have any control over, really.

It is about the size of a single pixel.  On a 4K screen, the pixels are smaller.  It is the nature of higher resolution.

Once you get to where the remote plane/object is being drawn with a single pixel, that is what you are going to get.

Just didn't know if you that was even possible to code for....Resolution settings greater than XXXX than draw distance dots x1.5 or something.....

Not a coder so asking for the impossible is easy to do:)

We draw smaller and smaller until a dot is all that makes sense to draw.

If your television is doing any image processing, it will make it worse.

This is exactly why people with lower res monitors with a larger dot pitch, can see the cons before those of us with higher res monitors. Anti-aliasing makes this "effect" even worse.

Depending on what you value most, better isn't always better.  ;)

I hear ya...

4k Looks great...but giving up long range tally's is something to make me reconsider.

Ah well...the only place it really kills me is FSO's:)
