Definitely happy but I'm surprised how much the game is stuttering, even on basic settings.  Is it AH or do I possibly have some stuff going on in the background in my end?

look into some of your startup programs on windows 10.

Things tend to start "Automatically"   If your jumping right into game from boot it's probably doing a disk scan!

oh and welcome back cav!

This, and some other Windows 10 taming tricks. One important thing is to dive deep in the Windows Update settings and disable sharing updates to other computers. The easiest way to tame 10 (and 8, for that matter) is to modify the options during the installation process. Everything can be changed afterwards, but the settings are then spread all around the system. Also you might like to disable and/or uninstall the active tiles in the Start menu.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

No, it's backwards compatible.

Make sure you boot the dx9 version of AH. As mentioned the dx11 tends to stutter. Dx9 is smooth with no hiccups. Open you AH folder and you'll see both versions of the .exe. Good luck!

FYI this computer just went on sale.  $70 off, now it's $979.99 before tax.  Not a bad deal at all.

Now to see if they will honor the price within 24 hours of the sale, or if i'm gonna have to return the damn thing and re-purchase.
