Now that you say it... I understand written Danish pretty well through the Swedish I had at school but written Icelandic looks a little weird with the extra tailed letters in their alphabet. For spoken Danish, I had a similar experience to this one near Copenhagen, asking for the hotel at a gas station:

Then again, it's the same with all languages. Following a newscast is pretty easy but having a conversation in a noisy crowded place can be a nightmare.
