aceshigh9.exe stopped working
« on: August 24, 2017, 08:30:48 PM »
Hi, when I try to run aces High on my computer, I get a err code that says "aceshigh9.exe has stopped working". I have tried reinstalling windows 7 but it still does that. What is the problem? I have played it on this computer before, though not after installing the Nvidia graphics card.
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron N7110, with a intel core i5 procceser with a build in  Intel HD 3000 Graphics, the laptop also has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M graphics card. I have all the proper drivers installed.

I have also tried to run aces high on one of my older computers, on which I had successfully played it before, but I just get a white screen.

Be sure your GT 525M is your default video. When you first launch the game click on the video settings button and make sure the GT is selected in there as well.

The GT 525M doesn't seem to be any better than the bare minimum requirement, GTX 9800. If you can start it with the Intel chip, go to the settings and set everything to the bare minimums. For what I could find, the GT 525M doesn't add much to the performance vs. the Intel 3000, it just has some more features.

In Nvidia (and AMD) video cards, the tens tell the relative performance level within a generation which is indicated by the hundreds. The 500 series is quite old, the latest one being the 10 hundred series. Also the #25 is very low compared to #80 which is the highest numbered level. Add to that the M for Mobile which cuts performance even more.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

A DXDIAG output would be helpful.

One thing to check.  When you run DXDIAG, check all the tabs for proper native driver support.  Also check to see what video cards are seen in the DXDIAG.

By default, there is a good chance the NVidia graphics card is not being used by the game.  Bizman is quite right about the performance of that video card.  It is a very low end card.  Only slightly better than the Intel HD internal video device.
