Pilots Information File document in the tower
« on: September 24, 2017, 10:39:16 AM »
Have you guys ever turned around while you're in the tower and looked around?   You know that book thats on the table directly behind you?   It's called the "Pilots' Information File" and its a real document.  Here's a link to the real book:  https://aviationshoppe.com/1944-pilots-information-file-a-27.html

I made the image below a clickable link - I just wanted to try a proof of concept for an idea.   If you click the book image below, it'll open up a real page-turner.  Click on the corners of the pages to turn, or use the left and right arrow keys.

I was thinking this could be filled with hints and tips for Aces High.  Right now I've run out of steam creating content and have switched back to working on skins, but I wanted to see whether this works for other people and what they thought of the idea.  It works best in Chrome for me, and the code is a little buggy.  It's from a sample Javascript library called "turn.js".

I borrowed the code for the Steve Jobs book and adapted part of it to the Pilot Information file.  There's not much real content and its still a little rough, it was just an idea I wanted to try out.   I was hoping to give it a real authentic look.   I think it could be made to be interactive in the same way the clipboard is interactive. Links to YouTube training videos could probably be inserted right on the book pages too, stuff like that.

During the alpha I clicked the heck outta that thing to no avail. Always thought it was a project on the bottom of the todo list that Hitech needed to get back to. Tried clicking on things in the hanger the same way to see if a new information format would be part of the new game. Even crashed one version of the alpha patch trying different key combos just in case that book held and Easter Egg.

Hey bustr maybe Hitech has the same idea just hadn't got there yet

Did you guys get to the page flip book?  Did it work OK in your browsers?

I envision it could contain helpful tips and tricks for techniques in AH game play, not so much a technical training manual for setting up controls  - more along the lines of how to dive bomb, glide bomb, how field resupply works, radio term glossary, stuff like that.
