VS-5 SBD
« on: March 12, 2018, 05:33:24 AM »
Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin.

This Dauntless of Scouting Squadron Five was flown by Ensign Leif Larsen and based on the USS Yorktown during the Battle of Midway in June 1942. It has a little used variation of the USN colour scheme where the front of the cowl was painted in the underside light grey colour.

Beautiful.  Your subtle weathering and grime just aft of the cowl looks perfect.  Is this a 2K skin?

Very nice!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

The SBD is a 2048 res skin.

AH3-era skins (TBM-3, Ki-61, Bf 110C and G, Me 163, F4F-4, FM-2, SBD-5, D3A and  B5N2) are either 2048 by 2048, or in the case of multi engined bombers (Ar 234 and Ki-67) 4096 by 2048. Prior to that it is 1024 by 1024 for everything except big bombers which are 2048 by 2048.

Can you make #5 in this picture?  The weathering and dents look awesome.

"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

I can skin that later but as I have already done a couple of Midway SBD skins not right away. I'd like to do a second Midway-appropriate skin for each of the other rides in the scenario before I do another SBD. I'll probably skin an A6M2 next, then maybe a second Midway F4F-4. There are also a few other non-Midway skins I want to do soon like an Ar 234 skin.
