Mission start option
« on: October 04, 2018, 10:44:15 AM »
If you are in the MA, and create a pick-up mission, when it mission starts, it gives the creator 2 options before it launches in a window with two buttons. Nothing happens until the creator hits one of the three buttons.

[PlayerID], mission [Name] is ready, your options:
Button 1: Start  Button 2: Cancel

Sometimes, I just want another 5 minutes before the mission starts so more players can join or to delay it a bit and just let the mission fill up the spots while players join (some are still flying when it comes up and need to land). That way the creator has total control before a mission launches, especially if the area clock is ticking kinda fast...

What do you all think?

What you can do is have everyone go on the runway before mission start time.  They are still "in the mission" but won't auto takeoff (I do this so I can use the skin I choose).

Your mission peons must be sharp enough to listen to instructions however.

This is what we do every frame of FSO. "Start" time is a fairly fluid thing with delays for whatever reason so setting an actual start just isn't gonna work. We set our loadouts manually and just use the mission planner for things like waypoints and plane info. Everyone takes off and shows in the mission (that joined it) and can see the waypoints on the map. Problem solved.

Yeah, agreed on all frunts Drano and Columbo - but for arena's with a fast clock, 15 minutes is not 15 minutes. It's like 5. So you think you're giving yourself a tonne of time to get plarys in, but the next thing you know you're in the tower one sec and suddenly your prompted about joining the mission.

I'd just like to give the mission creator total control to execute, especially when you have some players like "I need just another minute to land my kills" and the mission is about to start.

Especially for new players who don't understand the accelerated clock in the MA.  Just another great trick to give them some time to delay the start of a mishun.

Not sure EXACTLY, but I know when I log in after FSO it's almost certainly about to get dark or is already dark. I'll fly until my cooler is empty, maybe 4 hours. It's usually getting dark again and that's usually it for me.
