Nvidia GeForce GTX 860m video card
« on: July 28, 2019, 11:57:36 PM »
Hello Help,

Have an Alienware with dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 860m cards.  Have been playing the game flawlessly for years.  Had a card die.  Dell replaced the card.  Now opening game screen has the game frame only, music plays but the frame insert is black.  So unable to play.  Following is my dxdiag with the most important details.  Any suggestions what might be wrong that I could address?

First, have you removed the old video drivers and installed new ones for the card? The latest ones may not be the best for a card that old. Anyhow, you should tell Windows that you have a new card by installing appropriate drivers. Even a basically identical card may have a different bios or other changes which may prevent the previous drivers to work.

If the above doesn't help, in your Settings folder (C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III\Settings) rename the video8.cfg file. Start the game and if you get the game menu, choose the Video settings and adjust where necessary.

If that doesn't help, reinstall the game over the existing one. No uninstalling needed, your settings will be safe.

Thank you Bizman. Will give the driver recommendation and look at the video file name renaming.

When you start AH check the video settings to make sure the 860m is the selected video card.

Thanks for the compliment, but deity isn't for me. Troubleshooter might be closer. And you did the right thing by posting the DxDiag. It said clearly "driver: n/a" for the video card.

Glad you got it solved  :aok
