Stick Definitions Keep Disappearing
« on: November 07, 2020, 10:18:43 PM »
I set up a new win10 PC last week.  I moved the Stickdef file over.  Everything was fine last Saturday.  Yesterday all my stick definitions were gone.  It took an hour, but I remapped everything before FSO.  Today all my stick definitions were gone again. Does anyone have a fix for this?  I'm using a Warthog Hostas with CH Pedals.

When it happens the next time, try this: Keep the Shift button pressed while clicking Shut Down. Start normally. That will force the computer to start from scratch instead of using potentially corrupted saved settings.

That's not a fix-all trick but worth the one minute effort.

Also, keep a copy of that definition file handy, so you can copy it back if needed.  When you make changes, copy that new file over so you always have a backup.

Note:  This won't keep your stick definitions from going away, but it will make it easier to bring them back...

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  It's a work around, but I would still like to find a fix and maybe the cause.

I know on Win7 if you moved to a different USB plug the game would sometimes see it as a new controller, also if you used a Thrustmaster Target Script it would erase your stick definitions in AH.

Which of the suggestions seems to work?

I haven't been on AH since Sat.  I'll remap my stick Fri. before FSO.

I remapped on Fri. by Sat. it was all gone again.

Neither suggestion worked.

I don't know why a copy of StickDef won't put it back to normal.

I would use the Target GUI program from Thrustmaster, but it is so complicated to setup.

I need a fix to this, I can't spend an hour doing stick setup every time I want to fly.

your looking for a jsm file in the settings folder. Mine is....

joystickhotaswarthog.jsm for the stick
chprothrottle.jsm for the throttle
chpropedals.jsm for the pedals

Copy and save those files that are for your stick, or just save the whole settings folder once you have it setup the way you want.

If you run into trouble, just drop those saved files, or the settings folder in place to copy over them.

I might have found the problem.  I changed to a different USB port on the computer for my powered USB hub.  So far it's holding the stick definitions, I'll know better this weekend.  Thanks for all the input.
