This SBD was part of US Navy Bombing Squadron VB-2 based on the USS Lexington in 1941/42. This squadron took part in the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942 where the Lexington was sunk, following this it was disbanded. The aircraft was painted in the early war scheme with red, white and blue markings before the US Navy decided to eliminate the red from its markings to reduce friendly fire incidents.
