These 'Clans' are squads, group of guys that like to work together or just want to have some fun together. You can't select your fellow countrymen - everywhere will someone flying which tone you don't like or so - but you can select your squaddies.

Also, the arena and player base is too large and to different to combine all forces of a country in one spot. And some people like mindless action, others like some planning and preparation, some like it all.

These are squads, and they are groups of people that band together to run missions.

Logistically it is very difficult to coordinate large groups of people. You should drop in on a Scenario next time we run one and you'll see.

In the MA, people come in-and-out all night long. Some want to do this, some want to do that, but seldom would you ever see 40 people of the same mind enough to drop what they want to do and follow the direction of someone they don't know. That's asking a lot.

Would such a force be more formidable? Sure. But what if I pop in and have only 20 minutes to play? Do I want a 10-minute briefing before I go? No way. And who would stay in the tower to coordinate such attacks?

The MA will not have such an environment except in only the rarest of instances. An HA or SEA event is far more likely to give you this.

These 'groups' need to lose the "Quake-ese" and start thinking military.
Always had a problem with the use of 'Clan' in a military sim unless it's set backk in Scotland around Robert The Bruce's time.
My US$0.10 worth.

You fella's that regard us as "Clans'" may want to join up with our "Clan" on mission nights.  We have 2 mission nights a week, and 1 training night a week, the rest of the week is up to the individual to do individual squadmate to do whatever he/she wants.

Alot of these missions have multiple squads such as the 332nd, the Bucanners, JG68, and other squads doing cooperative missions.

Folks spend $30 a month here, please don't dictate to them how they should fly, start your own squad if you want to do that.

Man, I need to work on my clarity!

Ripsnort, my feeble attempt at clarifying arena behavior left room for different interpretations.

What I meant to make clear was I believe Squadrons will have coordinated activity, all else will be melee with little hope for a unified effort.

I don't think I upset you with my post, but taking no chances...

Nope, didn't read anything negative  into your post Kieren.

My point is, there are folks that like coodinated military pressure, and folks that don't, and folks that are new, and still learning.  Squads are  the best bet in my opinion.

Ranker,

These "clans" are called squadrons.  These are formed by liked minded people that like to fly together.  They usually take one of two forms.  One is just a bunch of guys that like to fly together, no or few rules and just a fun get together.  The other is the historical squadrons.  These groups try as much as is possible within the confines of a sim to recreate one of the real world war II squadrons or groups.  This can include only flying the aircraft that the RL squadron did and useing the same tactics.

Niether type is better than the other, it just depends on how you like to fly.  Most of the squads in AH tend to be more of the looser structure type as far as I've seen.  Although I see some of the LW squads using historical names I don't know if they base there operations on their RL name sakes or not. (No dis intended I just dont know what the structure of the squads are)

I WB I'm the CO of the 307th FS, a squadron of daddy='s 31st FG.  We try to emulate the actions and tactics of the RL 31st FG as much as we can.  We have rules that members must follow and we have a command structure.  Some may think that is a little strict for a game, but it's what we like to do.

I recommend that you ask some of these "clans" if you can fly with them on one of their squad nights, I think you'll be presently surprised.
