The ditty...
Was flying the P-47D30, 10 rockets, 2 1ks and was minding my own business heading to a base when an ack-puff woke me up. Fleet directly below me. At 14k, dove, extended dive brakes and dropped 2 1ks on CV. As I'm nosing up, I figure "I wonder what 10 rockets would do to the destroyer?" Whhhooooosh" off they go. Just as I'm pulling up and climbing away, my left wing is shot off, so I bail. Here's what I see from the chute...
