I just finished reading the thread started by TAC titled: Can we PLEASE get rid of bar dar below 500ft?
I have a suggestion, model a new ground vehicle (maybe a 2.5 ton truck) that can deploy a mobile radar site. Then do away with the red bar and use the dot radar anytime your within 10 miles of a radar site. (fixed or mobile)
Then AH can aviod having to set a floor (500 or 1000 feet) for radar coverage, the floor would be determined by the altitude at which the radar is deployed. If you're worried about a sneak attack up one of the valleys, no need to cap the valley or field, deploy a radar unit to the bottom of the valley. (of course that radar wouldn't be able to see over any peak to either side of the valley. If you're team is worried about a massive GV attach, deploy a radar site near the enemies GV spawn site.
That gives each team the ability to control (or not) how much warning they get preceeding an attack. To counter this the attacking team would have to scout the valleys and peaks to kill any radar sites that might give the attack away. (of course the sudden lose of radar in that area should signal the home team that something is happening.)
You could also augment this with the use of spotters as was suggested in the other thread. The spotters could serve the same purpose but with significantly less range.
