I would luv to play AH but...

The planes all fly like bricks.  Is it my setup?  I've worked everything over but nothing helps.

All the graphics, game play, etc are OK but it's no fun flying bricks.

The P51 is what I measure by.  I can barely get it off the ground with 1/4 tank of fuel.  I have flown in a P51 and know this is not the case.  Also the P51 was able to take off and do an Immelman from eyewitness accounts.  Heck, they race these planes?

So whats the deal?  It doesn't have to be WB's standard, but not a brick either.

I respectfully doubt these witness accounts.

rexx,

Make sure that your joystick is calibrated outside of AH AND inside, using setup/joystick.  If you haven't done this yet it could seriously affect the way things fly.

Hi rexx,

Not having the problem you describe but I feel all the FMs recieved a little added dose of drag in v1 which is fine by me.  As a result, I need more runway to get going in the 51 and a tender hand on the stick up to about 500 ft but after that the speed builds and I get on with it.

If you are used to the FMs in warbirds I suspect they still have a tad bit more responsiveness across the envelope thus your feeling of bricks.  Fly these FMs for two dozen total hours and you wont look back.

Such is life.

Oh yeah. Eye witness accounts. Gotta love those.

Go here http://www.danford.net/vmf221.htm   and read these after action reports, on encounters with the Japanese Zero at the battle of Midway, by U.S. Marine pilots flying Buffalos and Wildcats.
Here are two of the 'better' quotes:

"It is my belief that they (Zekes) can climb at least 5,000 feet a minute.."

"I estimated the top speed of a Zero Fighter, from what I saw, at better than 450 mile per hour..."

From these eyewitness accounts the Zeke should really perform ACM like a moth with speed and climb like a jet powered fighter.
So please don't base FM's on "eyewitness accounts" and don't support your POV with em either...

Hi Gorf!  long time.  I'm sure I will be seeing you around.

<rexx goes to the books for documentation on Immelmen after takeoff.>  Maybe somebosy has the reference already.  Happened in midwest, a squad was showing off for a bomber on the ground watching them.  Of course, the bomber pilot could have been lying.

The p51 I rode in sure had a lot more lift on takeoff.

I will calibrate my stick offline first and see if it helps.

Of course the P-51 can do an Immelmann after take off.  It just has to get to 250mph indicated first.

Hiya Rexx! tshred here. Hmm, I didn't change a thing going from WB to Aces. Stick scaling, everything. I've seen other posts about some stick's causing troubles with scaling and such, check out the Hardware and Software forum or do a search, you might find something revelant to your situation. Like others said, you might just have to fly it a while, and I agree with yeager, it's way better than WB's FM's. Hope to see you and more of the 1st ACG in here....bokbokbok...shred out.

P.S. btw, the next new plane will be the P38!!! Hope you get it working.
