Dateline London, AP wire service: RAF fighting for it's life!
In the skies over Southeast England and the chill waters of the English Channel, the Royal Air Force is struggling to hold at bay the German Luftwaffe. Casualties have been heavy for both sides, according to War Ministry sources. The gallant pilots of the RAF -- who's ranks have been leavened with volunteers from America, Poland, Free France, and the far flung reaches of the Commonwealth -- are barely managing to hold their own in day after day of titanic air battles.
Losses for both sides to date:
Luftwaffe - 671 fighters and 63 bombers
RAF/RN - 780 fighters and 2 bomber
The Luftwaffe shows no sign of backing down, despite their losses. Moral among RAF and Royal Navy flight crews remains high as well, but the constant combat can not be sustained indefinitely.
