CT radar too restrictive again
« on: April 27, 2002, 02:48:49 PM »
This map NEEDS lots of radar range.  It's currently set way too short.  Like 1/2 what it should be IMO.  Try tripling the range.  Was just on with about 16 folks in there, couldn't find a fight.  Nada.  Watched radar for a minute, nothing.  Launched from the CV and headed for Germany... nada.  Then a radar bar showed up in S England.  It was a 234, and it's radar bar dissapeared while I could still see it's dot from the runway of the field.  That's silly.  I logged.

The long update time means that you can crank up the radar range without making things too exact.  If I show up and I look at the map and have absolutely no indication of where the bad guy is, I'm going to log.  Please extend the radar range in the current setup.  The channel map needs even more radar range than most of the others.

Possibly because he wants some chance of actually fighting within 30 minutes.
Nothing is worse than wasting all your fuel just looking for enemy, hell you can do that offline if thats what rings your bell.

Im sorry, I guess I enjoy some of the more realistic aspects of the game.  Why hang in the CT if that is what you want?

oh thats right, its perk rides week!

Lol theres realistic and then theres anal.
Expecting us to fly realistic cap missions when the majority of these never ever even saw an enemy aircraft is just too much to even think about.
Btitish especially had listening devices and primitive radar to detect enemy aircraft and vector fighters onto them.
Which is what Lephturn is asking for but just a longer range setting than we currently have.
Btw the british radar could detect German aircraft as they took off at some bases and looooong before they even crossed the coast of france.

You know what I find strange?  for the first couple of days the radar seems real short, but after the weekend, it seems to be full dar bar and limited dot bar.  You noticed this?

Leph... you were in the arena all of two minutes before you complained about the settings and then vanished.

I've found that no matter what the settings are in the CT, someone ALWAYS complains.

At least it's a little different every tour. Something that cannot be said for the MA, which has remained basically unchanged (other than updates and terrains) for the last two years.

One of the BIG problems with the Curent map is this: Their are no radar dishes at the airfields, go to a tower and look around. The only bases with radar dishes are the ports, and the CV's. The end result of this is that normal radar does not work. So the only setings the CT stafers can use are, all dot dar all the time everywhear,or not dot dar at all. the same goes for Bar dar. It bites shure but once again we are limited by the maps we have, personaly I have fun on this map, and i think Buzz's set up is a good one. What I do is head for the enemy bases if I can not see anyone, I go and die ack it and knock on the door so to speak, trust me some will come to see whats going on, typicaly from a nearby base.

Well, I didn't log in to fly around in vain.  I was logged on for longer than 2 minutes... it took me at least that long to launch from CV 18 and get to the coast of France.  Then I augered, because there was some action in the S of England.  I upped again and climbed up to about 8-10k before realising that the only enemy I had any contact with was an Ar234.  That was going to be in vain, nobody else had contact with the enemy.  So I logged.

Yep, somebody always complains.  I'm just pointing out that I think we need to be able to at least tell using radar which general direction to head to find a fight.  When I logged in, I couldn't get than information.  I think that information is required in any arena.  That said, I think Brady's post explains why there was a problem when I was logged in.

the problem is with the fields not having dar at them. The dar sites are at the ports.

The reason it appears like full dar at times is because of where the cvs are. The cvs give full radar info.

So if you sail the cvs to a point where they dont cover the channel with its dar you only get coverage from the dar sites at the ports.

But folks have a tendency to park fleets off bases in this map which ensures they get sunk and as a result no dar. Or they take umm on milkruns.

Either way we need new maps for the ct that are designed with the ct in mind.

The guys who have made maps fo the ct are doing a good job gut theres only a few right now.

Know a good map maker? :)

Doesn't the variable update rate work with this map?  Have you tried enabling the dar and setting a very low update rate?  Might be a good compromise.

Also, it would be more realistic than no dar.

Ahhhhh, so THAT's what's going on.  I think the Germans had bombed/captured the ports along the coast, so nothing was showing up for some reason.

In this case, especially on a map this large, I think you just need to go all bar dar all the time and no dot dar.  That would allow folks to always find where to go to fight.  That's the info I need.  I've tried attacking a field by myself in the past to stir up some activity, but both times I tried it nobody came to defend and I was accused of milk-running instead.  I think just using the bar dar makes more sense and will get you more folks in the CT.  The more folks we have in there, the more fights there will be, and I think we all want that. :)

Should've come to 43/44. IIRC, we were trying to take it back from the LW at the time. There was some resistance. :)
