Nightmares launched 20 pilots in Spit MK IAs out of A12. We were tasked with defending A12 and V47. We immediately detached 2 scouts (Fdutchmn and Toolate) and sent them to 11,11,3 and 12,11,4 looking for the enemy. Meanwhile our main force of 18 fighters climbed out N then cirlced E and then came back down S to 11,11,6.
No contact was made by our scouts or the 2 THE DAMNED scout pilots in the area so we sent Fdutchmn down to 11,10,5 and Toolate to 12,11,2. Our main force vectored down to 11,11,2 and entered a holding pattern.
Fdutchmn and Silat (I believe from THE DAMNED) spot an enemy force at 11,10,5/4 consisting of high 109s at around 15K - 20K screening a lower force of JU88s. We guestimated around 20+ bogeys all told with maybe 12 109s and 8 JU88s at first glance.
Nightmares vectored down to the enemy force and initially engaged the 109s but when saw the JU88s we broke off and attacked the buffs. A running battle then developed all the way back the English coast at 11,11,1. I also believe that elements of 332nd Flying Mongrels and/or Screaming Blue Messiahs were vectored east to help us out.
During the fight we lost 13 (10 to enemy fire and 3 to crashes we believe) and shot down 7 and got 17 assists. However, the JU88s punched through to V47 and destroyed all the radar sheds their and 2 other buildings. Somebody reported a second wave of JU88s were sent in toward the end of our fight with the first wave but I can't confirm that. All I can really say is boy do those JU88s soak up .303s.
