i found the mouse and keyboard much more effective in the mechs.  I found its very difficult to aim with the stick.

Ditto about the mouse.

Only ever played one of the Mech demos; I played Heavy Gear 2 quite a bit, and enjoyed it immensely. Multiplayer was pretty good, too.

actually Mech4 is a kick if you use a combo of FF and mouse.
I 'drive/steer' with the FF stick and can 'feel' the mech walk. .pretty cool.
then aim with the mouse..   kicks butt.
